Subject: re: LH Lightning search for a co-chair for Concessions

Greetings everyone,

First, we apologize for not sending this out as a blind cc, but it's the easiest way for Amy (past Chair) to get the team family email addresses to me (current Chair).

Second, we are in need of a co-chair for the Concessions. Maureen Hayes helped with this last year, but has informed us that she needs to step down. Chris Henson needs a co-chair for this very vital committee. It is a big job for one person. The funds raised through our concessions keep our registration fee down and help pay the coaches, purchase equipment, etc. If you have questions about what the job entails, please contact Chris (ccbak@verizon.net). I know we can count on people to step up to the task.

Third, while you're at it - add my email (donna_aker@hotmail.com) to your contact list, so you will be sure to get emails from me in the future.

May the Peace, Joy and Love expressed through this Holiday Season stay with you and your family throughout 2010.

Go Lightning!

Annual Meeting Today!

We are going to try to squeeze in our meeting between rain showers today!

The LHST bylaws call for an annual meeting at the end of the season to conduct business, including the election of officers.  Board members serve 1 year terms, and may serve a maximum of 3 1-year terms on the board.  The retiring board members for this year are me (chairman), Mark Fischer (Vice chair), Kathy Danielson (Treasurer), Peggy McNult (RSL Rep) and Jeannette Getch (Membership Chair).

The slate of officers to be placed in nomination at the meeting are:

a.       Chairman-(vacant)

b.      Vice Chair-Cheryl Wendt

c.       Secretary-Hope Wood

d.      Treasurer-Mary Miller

e.      RSL Representative-Michael O’Donoghue

f.        Membership Chair-Michele Freemyers

g.       Fundraising Chair-Stacey Ostlund

h.      Meet director- Carey Pohanka

i.         Concessions Chair-Chris Hensen and Maureen Hayes

j.        Social Chair-Mihwa Jent

k.       Equipment Chair-Phil Farmer

l.         At-Large-Chris Kraynak

m.    At-large-Mark Haines

You will notice that the Chairman slot is vacant.  The board has been contacting individuals to volunteer to serve in this very important role, and so far, no one has agreed to serve as Chair. We need someone to step up, and we need you to step up NOW!  Last year, we put out a call for RSL training, and we had 18 volunteers complete training, so I know there is a capable president candidate receiving this email.

Call me at 903-0377.

Finals and Picnic Updates!

Please take time to review all the emails that have been sent out over the last couple of days.  At the end of the season, there is a lot of information to get out!

Friday July 31 we will have a pot-luck breakfast for the swimmers.  Please send breakfast items to share at your practice time.  We will set up in the clubhouse and let the swimmers eat after practice.  Suggestions:  juice, bagels, fruit, breakfast casseroles, sweets.

Finals on Saturday August 1 at the King George YMCA:  We will have an indoor team area in the gymnasium!  Please look for the coaching staff inside the gym to sign in!  We are being told that there is room for everyone inside, however, we will have an outside tent also.  You need to bring chairs whether we are inside or outside.  T-shirts and heat sheets will be for sale, and they are usually $10 each.  Concessions will be for sale, and there may be other vendors as well.

**please note, the event numbers that were sent home with the swimmers are the regular dual meet numbers.  These are not the numbers of the finals events.  Please double check your event name with the list that was sent out last night, as we don't want the swimmers to miss their events.

End of year picnic Sunday August 2 at the North Pool:  We have some really cool raffles on Sunday, including golf at the Lee's Hill Course, American Family Fitness gift certificates, and several restaurants.  This is our final fund raiser for the year, so be sure to get your tickets!  Don't forget your food to share, your chairs, your vote, and your cheers for the awesome job our swimmers and coaches have done this year!

Attachment for previous email

Sorry!

Last week of swim team! Important News!

Lightning Families,
We have just a few days left, and as always, we need full participation from all families who are in town to end our season in fine form!

Wednesday, July 29 is our Swimathon, in memory of Deann Fischer.  The team plans to purchase a tree aniid a plaque to honor her years of devotion to the team.  Please collect donations and bring them to the pool between now and Sunday.  Coach Jay will have an envelope.  Swimmers will count their laps at practice on Wednesday.  Parents may come swim as well.

Friday, July 31 is our final practice of the season.  We will have a pot-luck breakfast after each practice group.  Please bring goodies to share!

Saturday August 1 is RSL Finals at King George YMCA.  Coach Jay has the events that each swimmer has been assigned.  No changes may be made to any of the events.  If your child has been entered into the meet, it is critical that he or she be present to swim their assigned events.  Our team typically does very well at Finals, because swimmers at B and C levels also earn team points.  The top 3 swimmers in each level in each event receive medals!

The team will have a couple of tents for finals, but if you have tents please bring them.  We will be spending most of the day outside, and keeping the swimmers (and parents!) out of the blazing sun is very important.  Bring lots of water!

Sunday August 2 is our End of Season party and LHST Annual Meeting.  I sent an earlier email about the food portion of the evening. Coach Jay will present awards to all the swimmers, then they will be dismissed to the pool.  For the Annual Meeting, you will have an opportunity to provide feedback to the board, and share ideas for next season.

Board elections are part of the Annual Meeting as well.  We re-elect the board each year, and members may serve up to 3 consecutive 1 year terms.  We will elect a slate of candidates for the 2009-2010 board, and right now that slate has a few openings.  I am attaching the job requirements for each board position.  We need volunteers for
President, Vice President, RSL Representative, Membership Chairman, and an At-Large director.  Just as we put out a call for RSL training this past season, we are putting out a call for Board Members.  You answered the last call beautifully, and I'm sure you will do the same again this time.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement this year.  I am proud to have worked with all of you and your swimmers!
Amy

End of Season Picnic!

Lightning Families,
We will celebrate our awesome season this Sunday, August 2, beginning at 4pm at the North Pool!

Food:  The team will provide pizza, pasta, and beverages (soda, Gatorade and bottled water). If someone wants something else, bring your own. If your last name begins with Lletters N-Z bring a covered side dish, letters A-M bring dessert. Plates, napkins, utensils are also provided by the team.

Bring your own chairs. Annual meeting will be held during the banquet, following the trophy presentation.

Raffle drawings throughout the banquet. Gift cards from Dicks Sporting Goods, Bloom, Danny’s Pizza, Lee’s Hill Golf Club and others will be available to win. Please bring some cash to help support the team with this fun end of the year fundraiser.

During the annual meeting, we will have our election of officers and board members for the coming year.  If you are interested in serving the team in this very important capacity and haven't been contacted by a current board member, please email me ASAP.

Good luck to all our swimmers at RSL Finals, Y-Nationals, and Senior Champs meets this week!

Lee's Hill Lightning Swim-a-thon

LEE’S HILL LIGHTNING SWIM TEAM
Deann Fischer
MEMORIAL SWIM-A-THON

All Lee’s Hill Lightning team members are invited to participate in a swim-a-thon in memory of Deann Fischer, longtime swim parent who served tirelessly volunteering countless hours in the scoring room before, during and after meets. Sadly, Deann passed away in January after a long battle with cancer. Our team is swimming to purchase a tree and plaque in memory of her to be planted near the swimming pool. Something her husband Mark and daughters Amanda and Abby can see each time they are at the pool.

Swimmers – you are invited to recruit sponsors for your participation in this swim-a-thon. Ask family and friends to pledge an amount based on the number of pool lengths you swim or a specific dollar amount no matter how many lengths you swim. We will accept cash donations or checks made to
“Lee’s Hill Lightning Swim Team.”
Write “Swim-a-thon” on the memo line, please.

Participants will swim for the Fisher family during morning practice on July 29 or at the evening clinic on July 28 under the supervision of our coaching staff. If you are unable to attend practice on those dates, see Coach Jay for make-up times OR you may swim for Deann on your own. Just get someone to count pool lengths for you and have an adult sign the reverse of this page to verify your participation if you do this outside of team practice.

Please turn in all donations and sponsor sheets (see reverse) by July 31.
You may give cash donations to any Lee’s Hill Lightning Board member or any adult coach OR place checks in the designated folder of the Communications File Box that is present at practices.

Lots of sponsors mean we will be able to purchase something beautiful for our team and the Fisher family to enjoy and prizes for the swimmers!

Lee’s Hill Lightning Spirt Prize Packs will be awarded to the top boy and girl fundraiser!

Let’s all do our best for someone who has given so much to our team.

Congratulations Undefeated Lightning!

Congratulations to our awesome Lee's Hill Lightning for an undefeated season! Our final meet score against Eden Estates was 354-149. We will be posting our new records for the season in the coming days. Keep checking the blog for updates!

Meet tonight!

We will swim tonight, even if it's raining.  Hopefully there will be no thunder/lightning.  Bring your rain gear and warm clothes for your swimmer!

Concessions cards must be used tonight.  There are no refunds on remaining balances for the year.

If you would like to purchase an ad in the RSL Finals Heat sheets, please do so by tomorrow.  Put your check and ad in the McNult family box.  Contact Peggy at psmcnult@aol.com if you have questions.  I will have last year's heat sheet to look at tonight if you would like to have ideas for ads.  Surprise your swimmer with a special message and picture!

Show your Lee's Hill spirit at RSL Finals!  All spirit items are 25% off tonight.  See Stacey to buy your shirt, backpack, towel, magnet, or lanyard.

There will be no stroke and turn clinic this week, as our coaches use this time to prepare for RSL Finals.  Our practice schedule for next week (July 27-31):

Monday-Wednesday:  Ages 13 and up 7-8:30am (extra practice for finals!).  Swimmers age 9 and up may join the early session for extra Finals workouts.  Other age groups remain the same.

Thursday-regular practice
Friday-pre-meet practice with Pot Luck Breakfast!  Bring a dish to share.

We will also have a swim-a-thon on Wednesday July 29 in memory of Deann Fischer.  More details to come!

See you at the pool!
Amy

Concessions Cards

Just a friendly reminder that if you have remaining funds left on your concessions cards, they must be used at tonight's last home meet. No refunds can be given for unused cards and they are only valid for 2009!

Come out and enjoy all of the great food that our concessions team has put together for you!

Lee's Ice Cream will offer Smoothies and Fresh Squeezed Lemonade!

At tonight's meet, Lee's Ice Cream will be making fresh smoothies and lemonade! He will be set up under a white tent near the soda machines. The smoothies and lemonade are $4 and he takes cash only - concessions cards cannot be used for these treats! Lee's Ice Cream donates 15% of his proceeds back to the team!

Lightning Wins and Important Schedule changes!!

Congratulations to our Lee's Hill Lightning for another victory tonight!  Final score was 288-217.

Thursday will be an after-meet practice, with 13 and overs beginning at 8 am, 9-12 at 8:45 and 8 and unders at 9:30 am.  Come check out the new water polo nets that the team has purchased!

The pool is scheduled to be repaired tomorrow evening, so there will be no Stroke and Turn on Thursday and no morning practice on Friday July 17 while the pool repair is being completed.  Thanks to the swimmers who had to swim with no blocks in the 1st lane tonight.  It simply was unsafe to have the block in place in that lane until the repair was made.  We should be all set to go on Monday morning, in preparation for our final home meet vs. Eden Estates.

Parents, if you know your swimmer will not be participating in RSL Finals on Saturday, August 1, please let coach Jay know ASAP.  We have to pay for all swimmers who are participating in Finals on Tuesday July 21, so it benefits the team both financially and competitively if we know what your intentions are.  We assume that all swimmers we have not heard from will be swimming, and the Finals fees are then paid for that swimmer.  Drop Coach Jay a quick note now at usa_aus@verizon.net if you are not going to be at finals.

Five meets down, one to go (plus Finals!)!  Thanks for all your support this season.  We are so proud of the way the swimmers are competing, and we are proud of their sportsmanship in all situations.

Concessions Cards on Sale!

Concessions cards will be on sale tonight at practice and Wednesday morning before practice, for $20 each. No refunds will be made at the end of the season, but remember that we have 2 meets remaining (July 15 and July 20). Cards are on sale during the meet, but the concessions chairmen prefer to sell them before the meet. If you have questions, please contact Chris Hensen or Maureen Hays.

In the Home Stretch for Swim Team!!!

Lightning Families,
We will be winding down swim team very soon, and it's hard to believe that meet #5 is Wednesday!  We will host Lake of the Woods at 6 PM.  We will continue our usual practice of arriving at 4:30 and checking in with the coaches.

One adjustment to this week's warm up schedule will be our team picture, to be made at 4:45PM.  If your swimmers have a Lee's Hill suit, please wear it Wednesday, and wear a LH shirt if you don't have a team suit.  Our sponsors receive plaques with the team picture, and we will post it on the website and blog.  We will be done in time for our 5PM warmup session.

Parents, we still have LH merchandise to purchase, including shirts, towels, string backpacks, magnets, and lanyards.  Help the team by purchasing some of these items for your family.

Tomorrow night, Tuesday July 14 will be another Stroke and Turn clinic with benefits:  ice cream cones for the swimmers!  Come from 6:30-7:30 and have some dessert before you go home.

Our final home and dual meet is next MONDAY, July 20, at 6PM.  Following this meet, we will be preparing for RSL Finals.  More information to follow!

2009 Finals Heat Sheets

Lightning Families,
The RSL Divisional Finals will be held August 1 at the new King George YMCA.  We will have lots more information to come about this very exciting meet.  RSL Finals are different than our dual meets (between 2 teams) because all 6 teams from the division will compete, and there is opportunity for more swimmers to score points for the team.  Swimmers will be ranked according to times into "A" "B" and "C" categories according to qualifying times, and points are awarded in all three categories, instead of only 3 swimmers per event that receive points in dual meets.  The coaches will place swimmers into the events that they think that will get the most points for the team and the best chance for the swimmer to get finals medals and ribbons.  Please talk to the coaches if you have questions.

Finals is a pre-seeded event, meaning that once the swimmers are entered into an event, they cannot be changed.  Because the meet is set, a program or "heat sheet" is printed before the meet, and available for purchase.  Each swimmer will be listed in their event, heat, and lane so you will know where your swimmer will be placed.  These heat sheets also provide an opportunity for you to cheer on your swimmer, by buying an ad in the heat sheets.  I will have a copy of last year's book if you'd like to see it.

Parents, if you would like to provide an encouraging word or funny picture for your swimmer, or business ad, please click this link to print the form for orders.  Place your camera-ready ad and a check payable to RSL in the McNult family folder in the communication box at the pool.  Deadline for ads is July 21!  The swimmers really do like to see something special from their families in the heat sheets.  Please consider including an ad and don't miss the deadline!

Thanks!
Amy

Lightning Wins!

Swim Meet at Fox Point!

We will visit the Fox Point swim team this Wednesday, July 8. Swimmers need to arrive between 4:30-4:40 for check-in with the coaches. Thank You from Concessions!

I want to extend thanks to everyone who made tonight's meet a success.  What a TEAM!!!!   A special thanks to everyone who stepped up and helped out concessions by storing food in their refrigerators and setting up/covering the meet tonight until we got things rolling this evening!!!!

Thanks again!l

Meet worker Update-2:30 pm

Thank you to all our families who have stepped up and helped us fill our vacancies for tonight's meet.  This is a great example of what happens when everybody pulls together, and the LHST Board greatly appreciates all your flexibility!  Thank you for being a part of our "TEAM"!!

We may have last-minute changes, so please continue to hang with us as we proceed tonight!

If you misplaced any personal belongings last night, please check by the entrance fence.  Most of our families claimed their chairs, etc. this morning.  There's still a brown blanket, a LH towel, and a set of boys clothes to be claimed.

Updating Workers for Thursday

Please click on the link below to update our Meet Director about your family's status for tomorrow. This will be very important in assigning workers. We know some families will be headed out of town, and perhaps some who couldn't make it tonight will be there on Thursday.
