Lee's Hill Lightning News - HOME MEET - COLLEGE HEIGHTS - JULY 1, 2013

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

I hope everybody is having a great weekend!

Here is an update for Monday’s July 1st HOME meet against the College Heights Gators.

Monday’s Schedule:

The pool closes at 4:00 PM on Monday.  That is when the Meet Set up volunteers will begin to get the pool ready for the meet.

Swimmers are to report to the pool at 4:30 PM and check in with Coach Jay by 4:45 PM

Home Team warm ups start at 5:00 PM

Away Team arrives at 5:00 PM (or before) and warms up at 5:30

All Lane Timers will meet with the Head Timer near Concessions at 5:45 PM

All Stroke and Turn & Runners will meet with the Referee at 5:45 PM near the starter’s tent.

Meet Starts promptly at 6:00 PM.

The home team sits on the clubhouse side of the pool.

Everyone has done a fantastic job signing up for volunteer positions! Thank you all for the great support!

I will be sending out a report after this meet, on where all the families stand on their volunteer obligations.

I am still in need of a few volunteers for the following very important trained positions:

Head Clerk of Course*

First Half

Referee*

First Half

Head Clerk of Course*

Second Half

I will be doing my best to act as the Administrative Referee for Mike K. during the meet.  If you did not notice during our home meet – Mike did a fantastic job as Referee keeping the meet moving and dealing with any issues that came up quickly. Great Job and Thanks!

Shari will “SEEDING” the meet as Head Clerk of Course before the meet starts, but will then be the Starter during the first half of the meet.

HELP NEEDED!

I would ask that if anyone has Clerk of Course experience (or not) that they please help out “SEATING” the swimmers.  We are only required to have three Clerks of Course by the RSL and we are short one anyway because we do not have a Head Clerk of Course signed up. Another lesson learned on my part – a few more volunteers helping to organize the swimmers at the Clerk of Course really helps to make the meet run smoothly.  If you are interested please let me know (and report to the Clerk of Course), and I will give you credit for volunteering.

We also really need some volunteers for the scoring room at future meets!  No Training required! Job will be explained to you by the Head Scorer. The job description is also listed on the website. If you have the training for any of the other positions listed and you can help – please go to SignUpGenius and sign up.

Let us all keep our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate tomorrow night. If there is a weather delay – I will do my best to keep you all informed as to what is going on.  Keep in mind that according to the RSL no decision can be made until 7:30 PM with regard to cancelling the meet in the event of bad weather. So be prepared to hang out in your vehicles while we wait out any passing storms. Also, remember the makeup day for any cancelled meet is scheduled for the next night.   Volunteers and swimmers please plan accordingly. Another lesson learned – next year I will try to create a text message system to keep everyone informed in these situations. For now, Shari will update the team Facebook page with delay messages or information. I will also send out an e-mail.

Reminder about the "Missed Meet" Form - please notify Coach Jay if your child will not be at the meet. Hopefully, you have already notified Coach Jay about this week’s meet, but if not, do so via e-mail immediately.  (Don't forget to mention all the swimmers in your family that won't be there). The form is on the website, in the Family Box at the pool during practice, or you can email Coach Jay at usa_aus@verizon.net.

Let’s all have a GREAT, SAFE and FUN second HOME meet cheering on all our Lightning Swimmers!!

See you at the pool!

Go Lightning!

Lee's Hill Lightning versus Spotswood Results

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

Well lightning has struck twice in Lee’s Hill.  Once at my house last night, and it took out all my internet service, phone, and TV right before the meet.  Thankfully – Verizon was on the case this afternoon, and my service was restored.  I apologize for the delay in sending out this e-mail.

Second, at last night’s meet! As you all know lightning struck many times last night and the meet with Spotswood was delayed for nearly two hours, but our swimmers swam and cheered their hearts out once they got the meet underway,  and the Lee’s Hill Lightning won our first American Division meet of the year!

The final score was Lee’s Hill - 178 and Spotswood - 173.

Congratulations to the following two swimmers for Most Improved Times:

Reese Hensen (5)            Girls 6 & Under 25 Free                -14.79

Chance Gillespie (6)       Boys 6 & Under 25 Free                -13.47

I want to thank all of the volunteers, parents and swimmers for hanging in there through all the delays.

I especially want to express my thanks to all the volunteers who filled their positions all night! As this was my first ever delay - I promise if that ever happens again I will work out the mid-meet swap out.  I had no idea we would be swimming until 11 PM.  At each meet so far, I have had many volunteers that were not working at the time come up and ask if there is anything I need. You do not know how much I appreciate that, and the fact that I have not needed to use many of them is a testament to all the volunteers that signed up, showed up, and were where they needed to be without me even asking.

Tremendous job by all the Lee’s Hill Lighting swimmers and volunteers!! Well Done!

I will be sending out an e-mail tomorrow with regard to Monday’s July 1st - HOME meet (yes there are only 4 days until our next meet) and any volunteer positions that might still need to be filled, and the meet schedule. For those volunteers that were signed up to work the second half at Spotswood and did not get your chance to volunteer – let your conscience be your guide if any positions need to be filled at any future meets.

See you at the pool!

Go Lightning!

Lees' Hill Lightning - AWAY Meet - Spotswood - June 26, 2013

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and all the swimmers are looking forward to a great week of practice! I know that Coach Jay passed on to all the swimmer’s what a great job they did at the exhibition meet, and how very well all our swimmers conducted themselves during the meet.  Our swimmers set an excellent example for the other team on how to act during a meet. Lee's Hill Lightning News - Exhibition Meet

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

What a great first exhibition meet we had with Lake Wilderness!  All of our swimmers did an absolutely fantastic job! As I said last week, all the cheering, community spirit, and sportsmanship I witnessed in the pool is just phenomenal!

Lee’s Hill Lightning had five triple winners this week!

Congratulations to:

·         Shannon Minnich

·         Kelly Morrison

·         Noah White

·         Sam Kauppert

·         Erin Morrison

Thank you very much to all the volunteers who helped out! Without your dedication and commitment none of this is possible. I thought everything went fairly well. Again - I took away a lot of lessons learned from yesterday.  If anyone has any suggestions on how I could make things better – please let me know. I want to thank both of our announcers who worked through some difficult circumstances during the beginning of the meet, and also thanks to Tanner for helping to get it sorted out. I apologize if I was short with anyone – just trying to keep things moving and solve some issues.

At the beginning of the meet – a call went out for a Runner for the time cards.  I must apologize - I cannot remember who stepped up to help – could you please e-mail so I can give you credit.

Also, I had many people come up and ask if I needed help anywhere!  I really appreciate that!

Some of those lessons learned and issues I might need some help with:

·         The outside lights near the scoring room and concessions need to be replaced.

·         I will keep the water for volunteers near the deep end of the pool near the starters tent so the timers and stroke and turn officials can pick up a water as they move from the deep end to the shallow end or as they rotate.

·         Block off a couple of parking spaces for the Concession Runner and Emergency Responders

·         Public Address System - as communication is extremely important before and during the meet – until we get a functioning wireless system – I believe it is best we position the announces near the scoring room and use a wired microphone – will set up a table and chair for the Announcer – and will provide radios to the:  Referee, Clerk of Course, Meet Director, and the Announces for better communications. It has also been suggested that to make the meets more fun to possibly play some music.

I will send out another e-mail with details regarding next Wednesday’s AWAY meet with Spotswood.

Go Lightning!

Message from the Meet Director:

I really want to thank everyone for the great response so far to fill all the required positions for the meets! There are still some positions that need to be filled for each meet.

Lee's Hill Lightning had 6 people trained at Wednesday’s RSL training session! Thanks so much Megan H., Chad H., David W., Brock M, and Glenn M! Shari and I were happy to see you all there!!!

Others have also been trained at previous sessions – including Deborah F, and Michael K.

If I have missed anyone- please let me know so I can relax.

Kudos to you all!

We need more trained volunteers in all positions! Especially for the Referee and Head Clerk of Course position.

Reminder:

·         This Saturday on June 8 from 9-11 am at Hampton Oaks is the next RSL Training session!

The jobs that require RSL training are: Head Clerk of Course, Referee, Head Scorer, Stroke and Turn, Head Timer, and Starter.

There are many other jobs to run a meet, but these particular jobs require training. If we don't have trained volunteers we can't run the meets, so please get trained so your kids can swim!

All the job descriptions can be found online at the RSL website.

If you cannot attend on Saturday, there will be 1 more training sessions sponsored by the RSL. It will be on Saturday, June 15 at Lake Wilderness from 9-11 am. Unfortunately this session is at the same time as our mock meet!

Thanks Again – Looking forward to a great season!

Go Lightning!
