Lee's Hill Lightning News - 2015 Tentative Schedule and NEWS

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful New Year so far!!

I have been following all our High School Swimmers, and year round swimmers in the newspaper or online! Congratulations on all your accomplishments and hard work!

Just to let you know, the Board of Directors is now hard at work getting ready for the 2015 season. We recently had the first very well attended meeting of the 2015 RSL Summer Swim Season.

Lots of great ideas where talked about. It was wonderful to see all the new and past members.

Unfortunately, last year’s assistant coach, Katie, will not be able to return this year as our Head Coach.  We are actively trying to find and interview for a new head coach.  We have a really wonderful prospect, and we will be holding an interview in the near future.  I am keeping my fingers crossed.  After the Head Coach is chosen, we will also be looking for an Assistant Coach.

We are also starting to look for student coaches this year.  We have asked our great Student Coaches from last year to return, and have received a few affirmative responses.  If you know anyone that is interested, they must have current Life Guard and CPR certifications prior to the start of the season. We would love to hear from them soon so they too can be interviewed!

We are still waiting for the final schedule from the RSL regarding teams we are going to be swimming this year, it was voted on at the February RSL meeting that the divisions will remain the same for the 2015 summer swim season.

The preliminary calendar looks like this:

Ice Cream Social – May 3rd from 2-4 at the South Clubhouse

Evening Practices - Start on May 26th

Mock Meet – Tentatively planned for Thursday night June 11th. (Instead of making the swimmers get up early on Saturday the 13th after the last day of school on Friday. Thursday is an early release day for Spotsylvania County Schools. Needs to be approved by the HOA.)

First Morning Practice – June 15th

Exhibition Meet – June 17th - Home

Meet – June 24th – Away

Meet – July 1st - Home

Meet – July 8th – Away

Meet – July 15th – Home

Meet – July 20th (Monday) – Away

Team Breakfast before Finals – July 31st

RSL American Division Finals – August 1st

Awards Banquet – August 2nd -

During our first Board Meeting, we had a wonderful presentation by Garrett Hawley about his Eagle Scout Project.  He has proposed that the Lee’s Hill Lightning Swim Team would be the benefactor of his project by building us new Clerk of Course Benches.  He brought a prototype of the new benches.  The new benches are much sturdier than the old ones, are going to last a very long time. The presentation was very well received and the board was very excited that Garrett choose the team to complete his Eagle Scout Project! An e-mail was sent out earlier on how to donate a few dollars towards this great project. If you have any questions – please let me know.

I am looking forward to another great swim season!

Go Lightning!

Lee's Hill Lightning News - Eagle Scout Project

Dear Lee's Hill Lightning Families,

Hi, my name is Garrett Hawley and I have been an active member of the swim team for 12 years. I am also a Boy Scout from Troop 1410 working towards achieving my Eagle Scout rank. In order to earn the Eagle Scout rank I must complete a project that benefits my community. I have selected for my project to give back to my team that I love so much. My project will consist of building 6 brand new wooden benches for the clerk of the course. These benches will replace the old worn down benches that we have now. The project must be funded by donations or fundraising. To build the benches I must raise enough money to cover the cost of the supplies for the benches. Myself, my fellow scouts, family and friends will supply the labor to build the benches. The project will cost approximately 500 dollars. A small contribution from each family will make this project possible. If you’re interested in financially supporting this project, please mail checks or cash to my home address at: 10313 Colechester St. Fredericksburg, VA 22408. Checks should be made out to Troop 1410. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated and the project will be completed well before the new season. Thank you and if you have any question you can email me at hawleygman@gmail.com.
