Lee's Hill Lightning News - 2015 Ice Cream Social and Swim Team Signups!!!

Dear Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

Ready or not! Swim Season is finally here!!

Just wanted to remind everyone that the Ice Cream Social is this Sunday from 2-4 PM at the South Clubhouse.

Come and register for the 2015 season.

Enjoy Rita’s Italian Ice, a scavenger hunt, and start your volunteer sign ups.

Come and meet our NEW Head Coach Claire Hagan and her wonderful coaching staff, and enjoy some swim team camaraderie!!

There will also be team swim suits to try on for size. These are the same suits as last year and will have the custom lightning logo, and we will be ordering our suits individually on line for those who wish to purchase a new suit.

More information on ordering swim suits will be provided at the Ice Cream Social and on line.

Fund Raising Opportunities:

We will also have an example of a new Clerk of Course bench that Garrett Hawley and his team of Boy Scouts built for his Eagle Scout Project for everyone to sign as a fundraiser ($1.00).

We are staring early this year putting together our team ads for the RSL Finals Program. We will be starting a signature page as a fundraiser for all our swimmers to sign and be included in the RSL Finals Program in August ($1.00).

The NSWC Credit Union will have a table for anyone interested in opening a saving or checking account. I have attached a flyer from NSWC with more information. This is a fundraiser for the team that is set up by the RSL. Please review the flyer for additional information on what identification is needed in order to open up a free account.  The NSWC puts in the startup money to open the checking or savings account, and then donates $10 back to the team for each account opened.

Looking forward to seeing everyone after a very long winter.  I cannot wait to hear all the sounds of cheering for all our lightning swimmers again!

If you are not able to attend, I have attached the registration and waiver forms, or they are available on the team website: www.golightning.org and can be mailed in, or brought to the pool once evening practices begin on May 26th!!

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at any time via email or call 540-898-4403!

Please invite your neighbors and friends to join us by forwarding this e-mail to those who may be interested.

Go Lightning!!

Lee's Hill Lightning News - 2015 RSL training Dates

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

It is that time of year again, when I need to request your help! The RSL has released the dates for this year’s training classes.  The team had a fantastic group of trained officials last year, but we were very short in some positions.  Some of our trained officials from last year are not returning to the team this summer. Hopefully, most of last year’s returning officials will renew, if required this year, but it would be great if we could have many more people trained to help support our team. If you are feeling a bit unsure, I am 100% sure that the officials from last year would love to mentor you!  New officials will have the support of seasoned officials.

Here are the six 2015 RSL Training Dates:

Officials Training Opportunities

  • Tuesday 12 May, 6:30 p.m. at Spotsylvania YMCA
  • Wednesday 20 May, 7:00 p.m. at King George YMCA
  • Tuesday 26 May, 7:00 p.m. at Hampton Oaks
  • Saturday 30 May, 9:00 a.m. at Fawn Lake
  • Saturday 6 June, 9:00 a.m. at Country Club
  • Wednesday 10 June, 6:30 p.m. at Leeland Station

NO MAKE UP SESSIONS WILL BE HELD

Volunteers are critical to the running of our swim meets. Competitive swimming requires parents to be actively involved in all aspects of our swim meets. Timers, judges, concessions attendants, announcers, starters, and scorekeepers are a few of the positions which are filled by parent volunteers. Volunteering is a requirement for our team.

Training for particular positions (i.e. starter, stroke and turn judge, referee, head timer, head scorer, and head clerk of course) is available prior to the beginning of our season. These "trained" volunteer positions are not difficult and are essential to running the meets. Each team is required to have trained volunteers - please consider helping your team and learning more about the sport of swimming!

I just received the list from the RSL of qualified and trained officials for the Lee’s Hill Lightning Swim Team.  As always we are in desperate need of trained officials!

If you have been trained in the past and need to renew, or have never been trained, please try to attend one of the RSL training sessions.

If you are an active high school swimming official, please be sure to fill out and return the required form to the RSL.

Don’t know how to get to there? Here is a link for directions to the pools listed above:

http://www.rslswimming.com/wp/teams/directions/

We need Starters, Head Timers, Head Clerk of Course, Stroke and Turn Officials, Head Scorers, and Referees!!!

PLEASE NOTE: All training is free, except Stroke and Turn Trainees and Referees are required to complete the online course at StrokeAndTurn.com and to bring their certificate to training. The RSL is going to provide a “key” for use at StrokeandTurn.com that can be used on the website to get a reduced price. Please contact me if interested in Stroke and Turn Training or Referee and I will provide the “key” when available.

For information about an official’s duties, see this training link:

Please direct all questions regarding volunteer training to:   LeeHillSwims@gmail.com

Thank you very much for taking the time to get trained and for volunteering!

Lee's Hill Lightning News - Friendly Reminder - Lee's Hill Community I.D. Application and Pool Rules Acknowledgement

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

Just a friendly reminder, during the Home Owners Association Meeting on April 1, 2015 that we attended, comments were made reminding EVERYONE that the Lee’s Hill Community I.D. Application and Pool Rules Acknowledgement needs to be filled out EACH year and returned to the on-site office.

As stated in the Crier –

HOMEOWNERS

If you received a new photo ID card in 2014, you will simply need to complete a NEW Lee’s Hill Community ID Application and Pool Rules Acknowledgement.  Once your completed forms are received at the on-site office, your account will be verified, your privileges activated, and your guest passes applied to your account.

The forms are in the April Crier as well as the address to mail them to:

9901 Old Dominion Parkway

Fredericksburg, VA 22408

Sorry if this is old news, but it took me a bit by surprise. I thought with the new system, the process might be a bit more streamlined.  Maybe in the future.

The HOA Board did changed one of the Administrative Resolutions regarding swim breaks. The new procedure is shown on page 25 of the April Crier.

Looking so forward to a great year of swimming!

Lee's Hill Lightning News - Capital Improvement Project - New Starting Blocks at the North Pool APPROVED!!

Lee’s Hill Lightning Families,

I have some wonderful news!  At last night’s Lee’s Hill HOA Board of Directors Meeting I presented the Capital Improvement Project for New Starting Blocks at the North Pool. My presentation was not exactly how I had it planned in my mind’s eye. However,  the board members all asked excellent questions and then voted.

I am very happy to report that the project has been APPROVED! The HOA board voted to approve an amount that will cover the cost of the new starting blocks and installation.

I promised the Board that I will do my very best to get the project completed at the very best price that I can, without compromising safety to our current swimmers and all of our future lightning swimmers.

I want to thank everyone who sent me comments to add to the online petition.  I compiled all of your comments, and sent one big e-mail to each of the board members. I believe that your support really helped the HOA Board to see how important swim team is to our great community. I also want to thank Eric Stohr and Feliz De La Torre for their very valuable comments and insights.

If you see any of the Home Owners Association Board of Directors out in the neighborhood, thank them for the support and all the hard work they do for the community!!

I will be contacting licensed contractors for more installation bids, and after consulting with our Swim Team Board Members deciding on the final design color of the starting platforms.

Looking forward to a great swim season!

Again, thank you for all the support!

Go Lightning!
