Greetings everyone,

I hope you enjoyed the first "no swim team" week of the summer. A few things that may have gotten buried in the emails:

1. We have are still looking for someone willing to serve on the Board as Concessions Committee Chair for next year. I've had two people say they are willing to be on a Concessions Committee, still looking for one or two more willing to work on this. A good Concession helps keep our registration fee down, so we need this in place now to allow the Board to plan accordingly. Chris, Shannon and Mari have compiled their wisdom into a "Concessions Handbook." So you aren't starting from scratch. Let me know you are willing and i will put you all in touch with each other to work on the details.

2. We have 4 pans (approx 9x13) of lasagna from Danny's left from the Awards Banquet, they are frozen and for sale at $10 each. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing one.

3. From Clif Turman - I've had a few people contact me about not being able to download files from the web site. Most likely it is because they are entering the "slideshow" mode of the web site. In order to download photos, you need to go into the "library" mode. Don't enter the slideshow mode unless you want to watch a slideshow!

Make sure you do not go into the slideshow mode when you visit the web page. You should go into the library and navigate by the drop-down film strip that appears when you hover over the top of the picture. There should be a "download" icon at the bottom left of the picture.

A few final thoughts:

Concessions - STILL VACANT - I have had several people inquire, but no one wants to do this alone (who would). THIS CAN BE A COMMITTEE!! If you would be willing to be on a Concessions Committee let me know - I will put you all in contact with each other to figure it out. Our AWESOME CONCESSION COMMITTEE for two years, has put together a detailed Concession Book, with contacts, foods, set up, etc. So you aren't starting from scratch.

For those I listed as taking a Board position, let me know if I got anything wrong (it's been known to happen).

Several asked for the recipe of the dessert I made:
S'More Cups
7 whole graham crackers (finely crushed)
1/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
6 Tbsp Butter, melted
4 Bars Milk Chocolate Candy, divided
12 Large Marshmallows

1. Preheat oven to 350. Place graham crackers in a resealable plastic bag, and using rolling pin finely crush into crumbs. Combine graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar and butter in a small bowl. Scoop into mini muffin pan and press crumbs to form shallow cups. Bake 4-5 minutes or until edges are bubbling. Meanwhile, break 2 candy bars into rectangles. Remove pan from oven; place one rectangle into each cup.

2. Cut marshmallows in half using kitchen shears dipped in cold water (prevents sticking). Place one marshmallow half, cut side down, into each cup. Return pan to oven for 1-2 minutes or until marshmallows are just slightly softened. Remove pan from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Remove cups from pan. Cool completely.

3. Break remaining candy bars and place in small microwave safe bowl. Microwave on High 1 - 1 1/2 minutes or until melted and smooth stirring every 20 seconds. Dip the top of each marshmallow in melted chocolate. Turn top-side up and let stand 40 minutes -an hour or until set. *NOTE: I had trouble getting the chocolate to melt and be smooth, I ended up spreading softened chocolate on top.

I am still looking for someone to sing the National Anthem for the first Session and the second Session. This can be an adult, a swimmer, a neighbor, friend whoever has a good voice and a willingness to sing. The same person can do both sessions or different people can. It can be a solo, or a group. I even have the words already, you just have to know the tune.

If you are willing to do this, please see me - I'll be at the pool around 6am, and am the referee for the first session (so come into the pool area) - I'll be wearing the FABULOUS NEW T-SHIRT! Make sure you get yours!!

Finals are here!!

Every family with a swimmer in Finals has signed up for at least one job, thank you. We have a few more jobs and I have had some people let me know to put them where needed. THANK YOU!!

FABULOUS NEW T-SHIRTS WERE HANDED OUT TO ALL THE SWIMMERS THIS MORNING - HAVE YOUR CHILD WEAR IT TOMORROW!!! If they weren't at practice they can pick up their shirt tomorrow at the meet. Ask when you check in with the Meet Director.
*Parents if you pre-ordered a shirt - check with Chris Hensen

Swimmers information: ( Check in with Coaches as soon as you arrive)
10 and Under:
6:15 report time
7:00 warm ups
8:15 start time

11 and older: (these times are approximate based on the timing of Session 1)

If you haven't signed up for a job at this point you will need to call me to tell me which job you will be doing, so I can let Coach Jay know. I am giving her the list first thing in the morning.

Don' t you know, the hardest workers are the ones contacting me to let me know they'll do more if needed or to make sure I know they are working (a few jobs aren't listed). I hate to ask, but at this time we have three families that need to sign up for jobs and eleven jobs that need to be filled. If can do another job THANK YOU!!!

I, also, just found out we need someone to sing the National Anthem (and that is one job you DON'T want me to do!) It is an honor to do this, so it doesn't count as a job.

The FABULOUS NEW T-SHIRTS are in. They will be given out at practice tomorrow morning, so make sure you're swimmer is there!! If you paid for a t-shirt, see Chris Hensen for yours. *If you aren't able to make it to practice tomorrow, ask at Finals or the Awards Banquet on Sunday. We are keeping track of who gets them, so we don't miss anyone. EVERY SWIMMER GETS ONE!!

Don't forget to bring a breakfast item to practice (whichever practice you usually come to), swimmers will eat AFTER they practice.

Saturday August 6th, FINALS!!! at the Spotsy YMCA (5700 Smith Station Road, 22407)
10 and under need to be at the YMCA at 6:15am; warm ups are at 7:00am; meet starts at 8:15am.
11 and older need to be at the YMCA at 10:15am; warm ups at 11:10am; meet starts at 11:45am.
Our team area will be behind the YMCA, close to the Pavilion. Swimmers should check in with the coaches as soon as they arrive.
Volunteers should check in with Cathy Chamberlain (Session 1) or Stacy Cochrane (Session 2 and 3) as soon as you arrive. The Volunteer check in table will be near the Pavilion.

Sunday August 7th, Awards Banquet!! at the North Pool, 5:00pm
Every family should bring a side dish to share (to serve about 10), drinks for their family. Chairs and tables maybe helpful.

Two quick things:

1. Job sign ups!!! At 5:00pm on Thursday I'm seeing fourteen jobs still available and about ten families that haven't signed up yet, but have swimmers. You have 3 hours, to get on and sign up. Some of these jobs are extremely easy!!

2. From Chris Hensen regarding Concession Cards:

Hello everyone!

Wanted to let you know that Shannon, Mari and myself will be at practice in the morning for those wishing to purchase concession cards for finals.

The cards will work the same way as they do at our regular meets. Persons working concessions will be able to deduct your purchases on the spot rather than you having

to wait in line to pay at register.

Please remember hosting finals is a HUGE FUNDRAISER for OUR TEAM!!!

The 1st Session is for 10 and under (all the 25 yard events) - these swimmers need to arrive by 6:15am, warm ups at 7:00am.
The 2nd and 3rd Session are for 11 and up (2nd Session will include relays that may involve 1st Session swimmers) - these swimmers need to arrive by 10:15am, warm ups at 11:00. The division between 2nd and 3rd Session is the half way mark in events (like a regular meet).
Please park as directed at the Y, I believe to either end of the building, not in front of the building (this is for members access).
DO NOT enter the Y by the front doors. Entry to the pool deck is from the pool side door.
The team areas are behind the building and our area will be close to the Pavillion to enable parents helping at concessions to keep an eye on their kids.
Concession Cards are on sale NOW! See Chris, Shannon or Mari to purchase one. If you don't purchase a Concession Card, you'll have to stand in line to purchase tickets (like everyone else). Concession Cards from the regular season will be honored and if you end up with money left on your card it can be used next season.

5. Awards Banquet - Sunday August 7th @ 5:00pm, North Pool - This is a fun evening to socialize and recognize the accomplishments of our swimmers. We have a potluck dinner, the team will supply the main dish. Everyone else should bring a side dish for at least 10 people (salad, fruit, breads, vegetables, etc.) AND drinks for your family. It is also suggested that you bring chairs/tables. As part of the evening we hold our Annual meeting and select new Board members - remember the team needs a complete Board to continue.

I'm sure there will be more before the end of the week, but this will get us started with the important tasks at hand.

Swim-a-thon on Thursday, hopefully more details this evening. We'll need parents to help count laps.

If your child will not be swimming in Finals, let Coach Jay know no later than the end of practice on Wednesday, July 27th! This should be by email or the Missed Meet form. The coaches will be doing meet planning on Wednesday. Yes, Finals isn't until August 6th, but everything is entered into the computer with all the other teams on Saturday and Heat Sheets are printed (they list every swimmer in every event for the entire meet).

Libby has begun working on sign ups for Finals, it isn't online yet but keep checking or send her an email with your willingness to work - leehillswims@yahoo.com.
Finals is divided into three sessions:

Session 1 - 10 and unders (25 yard swimmers)
Session 2 - the first half of 11 and older (like a regular meet)

The end is near - the end of the swim season that is!
A few items:

1. Last dual meet is tomorrow, Monday, evening at 6:00pm. Report time is 4:45pm. Allow at least 45 minutes travel time, but add in extra time to get through the gate. Everyone 16 and older must have a valid picture ID (school ID will work). If you have a military ID or DOD stickers on your car that will "speed" you through. Even if you didn't submit the form, please come to the meet as usual, if there is a problem have my cell phone number handy - 540-455-9141 - and I'll get with their RSL Rep. Attached is a map with directions and below is some added information on the color coding and parking.

2. Volunteer for meets - Libby has gone through her lists and will be contacting those that have not fulfilled their family obligation of 6 halves. If you haven't done your share of jobs at meets, please contact Libby ASAP to sign up for tomorrow's meet. Remember, if you haven't helped at a meet - someone else probably did more than 6 halves to fill in. On Wednesday, Libby will be giving a list to Coach Jay of swimmers that are ineligible to participate in Finals, because the family has not done 6 jobs. Libby's email - leehillswims@yahoo.com.

We thank everyone who has come up to Libby and let her know they were there and willing to help if needed.
And everyone that said "YES" when Libby came to them - without counting the number of jobs they had already done!
You're willingness to pitch in has helped the swim meets to run smoothly.

3. Finals Jobs - Libby will be setting up the sign ups for the Finals volunteers in the next day or two. Please sign up by Friday, July 29th. On Sunday, July 31st, Libby will begin calling/emailing families that have a swimmer participating in Finals to sign up for a job. If your child will not be swimming in Finals let Coach Jay know (in writing or email) by Wednesday, July 27th.

4. On Thursday, July 28th we will have a swim-a-thon - more details and a form will be sent out soon. We will need some parents to count laps for swimmers.

5. Practice - continues until Finals for those swimmers participating in Finals. No evening clinics.

6. Last Practice - Friday, August 5th, is our traditional Breakfast Potluck. Everyone brings a breakfast food to share to the practice they attend.

7. Awards Banquet - is Sunday, August 7th. More details will follow, but just to make sure it's on your calendar!!

For those of you that have been around Lee's Hill and specifically the swim team for a number of years, you may remember Sherrie Weinstein. Sherrie passed away on Thursday. She served on the swim team Board for a number of years when her daughter Caitlin swam for the team; her husband Stu was also active with the team. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, July 24th from 3-5p, at the Presbyterian Church at 810 Princess Anne St. The complete obituary is in today's Free-Lance Star.

If you look through the team pictures and do not see your swimmer, let Sandy or Clif know (they are the ones with the big cameras around their necks). They are trying to get pictures of everyone, but the kids keep moving so it's hard to keep track (and with a swim cap on they all look alike).

Get ready for Finals, the concessions committee will be selling concession cards to use at Finals (the ones you've used this season will work too). They are planning to have one person selling tickets to purchase food at Finals, so getting a concession card now will save time for you - because you won't have to stand in that line. Dahlgren meet on Monday, July 25th, remember anyone 16 or older needs a valid ID. Allow a little extra time to get there and through the gate. As many of you have realized over the last week, the mysignup page has locked you out of the last two meet schedules that used to be there for College Heights and Dahlgren. Those two signup pages seem to have disappeared and despite the company's claim that they can possibly recover them, I have yet to hear back from them for several days. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes some of you. I have tried to recreate the sign up page based on the last time I backed it up -which was July 5th. I realize that some may have gone in to sign up for jobs or change previous sign-ups since then, but it is the best I have. I urge all of you to look at the site for the College Height meet and make sure that you are signed up for the correct jobs and/or sign up for an open slot. I tried to update some of the info based on emails that I recieved this week. If your name is in an incorrect spot and you cannot change it due to password issue or whatever, please email me right away and I will adjust for you.

I will still hold out hope that the mysignup folks will recover the Dahlgren signup. If I have not heard by Friday, I will recreate the Dahlgren page again as well.

Also, as a reminder, the College Heights meet will start an hour earlier than usual. I am unfamiliar with the pool there, but will attempt to set my self up in a central location by 4pm. PLEASE come check in with me when you arrive. I will again be handing out name badges to volunteers.

The meet against College Heights starts at 5:00pm, so we need to be at the pool by 4:00pm!!

***Attached is a form that Michael O'Donohue needs ASAP for the meet on Monday at Dahlgren, if this form is not completed and turned in you may not be able to get on base. This is a Word Document to make it easy to complete and email - modon1@earthlink.net. It is recommended that you complete it even if you aren't planning on being at the Monday meet, just in case.

On Sunday, July 26th there will be another meeting of the Finals Committee @ the North Pool, 6:30pm. Even if you didn't attend the first meeting, you are welcome to attend this one. Finals is rapidly approaching.

We will be holding a swim-a-thon during practice on Thursday, July 28th. The forms will be coming out soon. We will need parents to help with lap counting.

Coach Jay needs to know ASAP, but no later than Wednesday, July 27th, if your child will not be swimming in Finals. We are only allowed so many swimmers in each event and we want a swimmer in each spot we are allowed. Every child will be entered in Finals, unless they have notified Coach Jay that they won't be there.

Greetings everyone,

A few highlights for the week:

1. Ads for the Finals Heat Sheet must be turned in by the end of practice tomorrow!!! Don't miss this opportunity to recognize the efforts of your swimmers or advertise your business.

2. ICE CREAM - we love our ice cream, so tomorrow night after the evening clinic we will be having ice cream, everyone is welcome to come hang out for a little and enjoy a treat. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND THE CLINIC TO ENJOY THE ICE CREAM!! Clinic is from 6:45 - 8:00pm.

3. Meet on Wednesday is at College Heights, this meet starts earlier than usual (I believe at 5:30pm - I will send confirmation by tomorrow evening). This means we need to arrive at the pool earlier. Parking is limited and "No Parking" areas are enforced, so careful where you park.

4. If you are interested in purchasing a limited edition t-shirt (design is not complete, but will include reference to our 2010 year!) you must complete the attached form and turn in a check for $15 per shirt to Chris by tomorrow morning. Each swimmer will get a shirt, but we are only ordering enough for the swimmers and whoever pre-pays for one. Don't be left out!!!

What a meet last night!!! A gas leak and road shut down, storms and then malfunctioning equipment! But we got in 46 events, so it was considered a complete meet.

TRIPLE WINNER - Mike Young: 100 Free - 1:00.16; 50 Fly - 28.33; 50 Back - 30.15. Great Job!!!

3 VERY IMPORTANT ITEMS:

1. RSL Finals Heat Sheet Ads - need to be turned in ASAP!!! Form is attached, turn the completed form and check, made out to LHST, in the Final Ad folder in the box.

2. We are ordering a special T-shirt for all the swimmers. If parents would like one the cost is $15/shirt, and we MUST have your check and size by the end of practice on Thursday, July 21st. Order form attached. Orders should be put in the Hensen folder in the box. No extra shirts will be ordered!!

If you don't get it there is a Spotsy Alert that Mine Road from Falcon Dr (WaWa) to Lansdowne is shut down. This is due to a gas leak. There is no estimate on when the road will re-open. And for those who are thinking hard - there is no way to drive to the pool without accessing Mine Rd. We can park on the South and walk or bike

Now a word from Coach Jay:

Hello to all Swimmers and families, we are half way through our swim meets and want a great job you all have done. I am very proud of you all, we have a great week planned for you so it is very important that you come to each practice especially Tuesday and Thursday of this week, let me tell you why.

First, Tuesday we have Coach Mike from the year round swim team the Rays coming to coach our practice so I would like as many swimmers to be there at practices to show our appreciation and you will also get a lot out of this practice.

Second, Wednesday is our last home meet we will have a TEAM PICTURE taken before warm-ups so please be at the pool by 4:30pm.

And Third, Thursday is the day after a meet so it is fun day, your coaching team has a very specially morning planned for you so we would like to see all the team at practice on Thursday. It is a surprise so I'm not going to tell you anymore. The times you need to be at the pool on Thursday are 11-18yrs 7:40-8:50 and 5-10yrs 8:50-10am. Parents this is important (not mandatory) but would like to see lots of swimmers there also we need volunteers to help if you can please see me at practices.

2. Let Coach Jay know, by a form in her box or an email (usa_aus@verizon.net) that your child will not be swimming in a meet, please let her know by Monday evening or July 22 for the last meet. She needs to know AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if your child will not be swimming in Finals on August 6th.

3. RSL Finals Heat Sheet Ads - it's not too late to submit your ad to be included in the Heat Sheet. I've attached the form for your convenience!! Submit the form, a check and the ad (in the size you want it on an 8x10 page) in the "Finals Ad" folder at the front of the box. All ads must be submitted by July 13th.

GREAT JOB SWIMMERS!! Final score - Chancellor -252; Lee's Hill - 251. What a meet! We had several triple winners and I'll put out all the details as soon as I get them.

Remember practice is delayed tomorrow - 8:00a; 8:45a and 9:30a

There is a Finals Committee Meeting this Sunday, July 10th at 6:30pm at the North pool. This is an initial meeting and any and all are invited to attend.

A few items to clear up:

1. Parents please do not just drop off your young swimmers for practice early - there is no one to watch them and the coaches are focused on the swimmers in the water. If you have issues with schedules, please talk to a Board member to see how we can help, or ask another parent if they can help out. Unsupervised children is a safety concern, and assuming someone else will watch them is not a good assumption, especially since very few parents are there at 7:30 (many of the older swimmers transport themselves).

2. Telling me or Libby that you will not be working a meet, DOES NOT relay to Coach Jay that your child is not swimming. You need to contact Coach Jay directly through a Missed Meet Form or email (usa_aus@verizon.net) when your child will not be swimming. We had several swimmers not show up tonight that Coach Jay was expecting and as a result some relays did not have enough swimmers. Knowing who will not be at a meet effects what events other swimmers are put in, lets get better at telling Coach Jay IN ADVANCE!

3. We parents need to get better at signing up for jobs in advance. Several families have not yet signed up for jobs or stepped up the day of meets. Libby will begin contacting these families. Each family signed an agreement to work 6 halves of meets. We are now half way through the season. How many halves have you worked? How many are you signed up for? If the total isn't six, click a link and sign up.

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July!

Practice and clinic tomorrow on the regular schedule, including Master's swim at 6:30am.

The swim meet on Wednesday is at home against Chancellor. Swimmers should be at the pool by 4:30pm. Set up volunteers should be there as close to 4:00pm as possible and check in with Phil. All other volunteers should check in with Libby when you arrive. She will be sitting on the steps near the concession area.

Speaking of volunteers, there are still a few positions that need to be filled. One of the first jobs that directly impacts the timely start of the meet is Clerk of Course, but these positions are empty. We have someone that is willing to provide "on the job training," but we need people to train EVERY POSITION IS VITAL TO RUN A SMOOTH, EFFICIENT MEET! Please sign up in advance.

Parents I would like to extend a VERY BIG THANK YOU to those that stepped up and took jobs that you hadn't signed up for tonight. We really need parents to volunteer for jobs. We would all like to sit and watch our children swim, but without timers, stroke & turn, clerk of course, scorers, ribbon writers, etc the meet will not happen. Please sign up in advance for jobs, so Libby doesn't have to volunteer people at the meet, this is a real challenge as she doesn't know everyone or what jobs you are able / trained to do.

Greetings everyone,

This week I have a number of things to share with you:

1. The swim meet this week is AT Fawn Lake, swimmers should be there by 4:45pm. There is a guard at the entrance, just let them know you are going to the swim meet.

2. We will hold a meeting of the Finals Planning Committee on Monday July 11th @ 6:45pm at the North Pool (during evening clinic). We are looking for parents to help with the logistics and concessions of this big money maker for the team. Please don't assume someone else will help, we need you!

3. If you have a business, or know someone that does, or maybe you just want to recognize the efforts of your swimmers - place an ad in the Finals Heat Sheet! (for new parents this is the program for finals and lists all the events/swimmers) I've attached the form with information. All ads MUST be submitted on an 8x10 page in the exact size you want the ad to be. Please complete the form and place in Michael O'Donohue's folder in the box no later than morning practice on July 8th.

4. Please complete the Photo Release form and put in my (really Bridget's) folder in the box. We want to post the link for all the pictures that have been taken!!

5. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions for the Board, please put them in my folder in the box; any regarding coaching should be put in Coach Jay's folder.

6. Don't forget to complete the Missed Meet form and put in Coach Jay's box or send her an email - usa_aus@verizon.net, no later than Monday at the evening clinic as the coaches meet after the clinic to plan the meet. If you already know your swimmer won't be at finals, let Coach Jay know.

7. Mark your calendar now, we will be holding a swim-a-thon on July 28th. Look for more details soon.

A job very well done to the swimmers and parents who participated last night!! We had parents step up to help as needed at the last minute and lots of hands making lighter work for set up and clean up. AND our swimmers were AWESOME!!!

***We had one triple winner - Noah White - 25 Back - 21.69; 25 Breast - 25.42; and 25 Fly - 20.62!!! Great job!***

Last night was an Exhibition Meet with Austin Ridge, from the Battlefield Division (we're in Patriot), but we held our own. The score was LH -244; AR - 250.

The concessions committee would like to thank ALL of last night's volunteers for a job well done!!! We received tons of compliments from Austin Ridge about the variety of food available and the level of presentation. Everyone's willingness to jump in and help where ever needed is greatly appreciated!!

The swim team board is still looking for volunteers for the FINALS COMMITTEE. This committee will have two components: 1. to help organize the concessions booth; and 2. to coordinate the overall meet for FINALS on August 6th at the Spotsylvania YMCA. Please let one of the board members know if you would like to volunteer.

If you haven't submitted the photo release form, please do so as soon as possible (I've attached it for your convenience). We have lots of pictures we want to post!!

Our next meet is Wednesday, June 29th at Fawn Lake - see the website for directions. Swimmers will need to be there by 5:00pm.

Remember if you have a question, the website probably has the answer! Check there first for a quicker answer.

Thanks to everyone that helped out on Saturday at the Mock Meet

1. Tuesday morning Coach Jay will begin offering a Master swim at 6:45am on Tuesday and Friday. This is for parents who would like an opportunity to swim. Coach Jay will have a workout if you'd like or you can swim your own workout. She will, also, be available to help with your strokes if you'd like.

2. We need help cutting up ribbons during morning practice. If you have pinking shears, please bring them and help us out.

3. Sandy has started to take pictures of the swimmers. We would like to post a link to these pictures on our website, but we need a release signed by each family. I've attached this release, please complete one per family and place it in my folder in the box at the pool. Once we get these we'll post the link for the pictures. She will be taking pictures throughout the season at practice and at meets. So smile you're on Sandy Camera!

4. Our first meet is Wednesday. It's a home meet against Austin Ridge. Swimmers need to be at the pool at 4:30pm, the meet starts at 6:00pm. Anyone doing set up should get to the pool as close to 4:00pm as possible.

5. Practice start times on Thursday will be delayed - stay tuned for details.

First, I apologize the last News Flash, I forgot to send out "bcc". I have to click off to the top of the page to get the "bcc" line and I forgot. I do try to minimize sharing everyone's email, please forgive me when I slip and forget.

Second, Mock Meet information:
1. Sign up for jobs is set up on www.mysignup.com; at the bottom of the page on the left (scroll down) enter leehillswims@yahoo.com as the email of the person who set it up. Click the link for the Mock meet (and any others if you haven't signed up for 6 halves).

2. Swimmers should be at the pool between 6:45 - 7am, Saturday morning. The meet will start at 7:30am

Third, miss meet forms are available on the web site and in "the Box" at the pool. Please be sure to notify Coach Jay in advance if your child will miss a meet. They plan the meet on Monday evening, so in advance is by the end of the evening clinic the Monday before the meet.

Remember most information is available on the web site, please check there first for timely answers to your questions.

Greetings everyone,

Schools out (for almost everyone) and that means morning practice begins tomorrow!!

(June 13 to August 5 ) 7:30 to 10:00 am
8 and under age groups:	9:20 to 9:55 am
9-12 ages group	8:30 to 9:20 am
13 and up age groups:	7:30 to 8:30 am**

Evening Clinics Begin tomorrow too. The coaches will let your child know if they should attend. The clinics will work on specific strokes, starts and turns and are geared to provide more instruction to swimmers to help improve their strokes. These evening clinics are not a substitute for morning practice.

The Mock Meet is this Saturday, June 18th at 7:30am. We'll need parents to volunteer for jobs, this is a great opportunity to practice the job you will do during the season.

We are seeking parents to be part of our Finals Committee to help organize our hosting Finals at the Spotsy YMCA. Please contact me or any Board member if you are willing to help. This will be a big money maker for the team.

If you no longer have a swimmer on the team and would like to be removed from the emails, let me know. Also, if you know someone that has joined the team, but isn't getting these emails have them contact me.

We are into our second week of evening practice!! A few items to bring to your attention:

1. Parent meeting - this Thursday, June 9th at 6:00pm. This will be held at the North pool during practice.

3. We are looking for a lead person for setting up for our Mock meet on Saturday, June 18th.

FYI, those needing to still buy team swim suits, I will have them at practice tomorrow 5/31/11 5pm-6:15PM, again on 6/6, and 6/9 same time. If your not able to make it to one these dates, I can be reached at 262-339-8001 to setup a pick up time. I will also be returning all remaining suits back to Sport Fair Inc on 6/13, but I will be out of town 6/11 and 6/12 so if your needing one please see me no later then Friday 6/10/11. This is it!! Memorial Day weekend! Swim team practice starts on Tuesday evening. I've attached the "refrigerator" schedule as we've had a few new families added to the email. If you are new to the team "WELCOME!!" Don't hesitate to ask questions. We'll have a parent meeting within the first two weeks, but don't feel like you can't track down a Board member before that to get answers.

The Mock meet is an opportunity for Coach Jay to get times on swimmers to help her plan meets, for new swimmers (and parents) to have an opportunity to see how a meet works, and for parents to practice their jobs. This Mock Meet is held at the North pool and is just our team.

Our first meet is Wednesday, June 22nd @ home against Austin Ridge. More details about that later.

Evening Practice; starting Tuesday May 31^st to Thursday June 9^th

Mon-6/6, Tue-6/7, Wed-6/8, Thur-6/9

Times:
4:30 - 5:15pm - 13yrs and up
5:15 - 6:00pm - 9yrs - 12yrs
6:00 - 6:30pm - 8yrs and under

1) clean out your garage, basement, attic, etc. where ever you store your unwanted items. Take these items to the North Clubhouse Monday 5/2, Wednesday 5/4, or Friday 5/6 at one of these times: 9am-11am or 4pm-6pm. If these times don't work for you call me and we can arrange a time.

2) If you are able to help pricing and organizing what is dropped off, let me know - we'll need help!

3) If you can help starting at 6:00am on Saturday to set, sell, and / or clean up, let me know - WE'LL NEED HELP!! We will, also, need help taking any "leftover" items to Goodwill.

We need your junk!! Do you have things you would like to get rid of, but don't want to fool with a Yard Sale of your own? Donate it to the swim team. This will help us raise money and not cost you anything, but a cleaner garage! Drop your items at the North Clubhouse at these times:
Monday 5/2, Wednesday 5/4, or Friday 5/6: 9:00 - 11:00am and 4:00 - 6:00pm
If these times aren't convenient, please call or email me and we will try to work something out.
On Saturday May 7th we could use some help beginning at 5:30am through about 1:30pm.

and last, for now: RSL Official Training is May 26th, 6:30pm, North Pool.

We need trained officials to work at the meets. Visit our website for a brief description of each job (check back occasionally as we fine tune the descriptions). You don't need to know anything about swimming: for example - as a Head Scorer you need some computer skills; Clerk of Course needs patience and organizational skills (an authoritative voice helps). Get trained, please the more people we have trained the easier it is to fill those jobs.

The Annual Swim team Ice Cream Social will be May 1st!! Each family is required to volunteer for 6 halves of the swim meets. Instructions for signing up online will be given once you register. Some of the jobs require training, but the RSL offers this training at various locations prior to the start of the season. The very first training is right here at Lee's Hill BEFORE the pool opens for the season. PLEASE consider being trained as a Starter, Referee, Stroke & Turn, Data/Scorer, Head Timer or Clerk of Course. Shortly I will have description of each job on the website. Starters, Referees and S&T officials need to visit www.strokeandturn.com prior to attending a training session. (hint - allow at least 30 minutes online)

We will set up a yard sale on May 7th (as part of the Community wide Yard Sale) in the North Side parking lot. More details will follow, but I wanted to give you notice as you begin Spring cleaning. This might help motivate you!

With the temperatures this week getting into the 60's you know summer is fast approaching! It's time to start thinking of swim team. If any teenagers are interested in being student coaches now is the time to contact me. You must be able to be a certified lifeguard by June 1st. Student coaches assist at morning practice, with evening clinics, help during the meet, and generally assist Coach Jay. On January 31, 2010 our team mourned the lost of Neil Hawley, a dedicated swim team parent, after a long battle with cancer. Marie is having a memorial Mass said for him on Monday, January 31st at St. Jude Catholic Church at 7:30pm. St. Jude Catholic Church is on Courthouse Road. (the former Extreme Sport building)

Hi Donna -

I found a creative way to display swim team ribbons and wanted to share it, in case anyone else is interested. I doubt if people are still checking the Facebook page, so I was wondering if you'd email this out. Don't feel obligated, though.

I purchased a belt from Goodwill for $1.99 and attached all of one child's ribbons to it with glue dots. Then, I looped the medals from finals through the buckle. Finally, I hung it using a nail through one of the premade holes. If needed, you could just nail a new hole somewhere in the belt. I didn't do any pre-planning as far as placement of the ribbons, so with a little forethought, it will come out even better.

I can't take credit for the idea...I found it on the internet. I've attached two photos showing the project, one from the front and one of the back so you can see it is a belt.

Finals are fast approaching! Here's the remaining schedule, with times:

Friday August 6th - Breakfast after practice - bring a breakfast food/drink to share to the practice your child attends.

Saturday August 7th - Finals - at King George YMCA- swimmers 10 and under (1st session) need to be at the pool by 6:50am; swimmers 11 and older need to be there by 10:20am (2nd session)

Sunday August 8th - Awards Banquet - 4:30pm at the North Pool. Last name A-L bring desserts; M-Z bring side dishes. Everyone should bring drinks for their family and chairs, if you have card tables or TV trays you may want to bring them too. Dinner will start at 4:45pm. Awards presentation will start around 6:00pm. Parent meeting will start immediately after the awards. And we are at the pool, so bring your swim suit!

Hard to believe the season is nearly over! Here's a run down of the last week of the 2010 swim team season:

Tuesday August 3 - evening clinic and Spirit Night at Chic-Fil-A (coupon attached). Coach Jay will have event numbers for Finals starting today at practice.

Friday August 6 - Pot Luck Breakfast after each practice - bring a breakfast food to share to whatever practice your child attends. Also, on Friday they will be painting a sheet with their hand prints, names, whatever to hang in the team area on Saturday!

Saturday August 7 - FINALS!! The 10 and unders are in the morning (first session); the older kids in the afternoon (second and third session). The second session starts with the graduated relay and other events that some 10 and unders swim. The second and third sessions are the standard first and second halves of a meet. I will email out the exact times for arrivals, warm ups and meet starts as soon as they become available. First session plan an early morning, everyone else plan mid-morning.

Sunday August 8 - Awards Banquet - 4:30pm start time. Last names A-L bring a dessert; M-Z bring a side dish. The team will provide the meat. Everyone brings drinks for their family. I, also, suggest bringing chairs and if you have a card table/tv trays. We plan to start eating around 4:45pm and start the awards presentation at 5:45pm. The parent meeting will be held immediately after the awards. We are still looking for new Board members. Oh yeah, we are at the pool - so bring your suit!

This information has been posted to the website and the Blog, however Hotmail decided today to limit the number of emails I can send per day. I am unable to send it to the entire swim team email list. I ask you to spread the word to others that might be interested in serving on the Board.

We are looking for volunteers to fill 4 positions on the Swim Team Board. Yes, I added a position. Michele Freemyers will be stepping down as the Membership person. Several people have asked for a brief description of the jobs for each position. Since when 1 asks, more people tend to be thinking the same thing I thought I would send this out to everyone.

Membership - this person receives all the registration forms and inputs the data into Team Manager (the software program we use) on the Team computer. They retain the paper forms in a binder. They work with the Treasurer to check that each family has paid. In addition they make sure the RSL Rep and Meet Director have updated rosters.

Fundraiser/Spirit Items - this person contacts previous sponsors for renewal and looks for new sponsors or opportunities for fundraisers. For the Spirit items its a matter of ordering more as needed and selling what we have (getting help is not out of the question!). At the end of the season, having plaques made as a "Thank you" to each sponsor.

Secretary - takes notes at the Board meeting, sets up the family folders in the box, updates forms and the handbook.

Meet Director - coordinates the parent volunteers, checks them in at each meet, and ensures that each family works the 6 half meets. Carey is setting up the online templates for job sign ups.

The Board meets January - September, once a month on the last Sunday of the month. We alternate between the two clubhouses.

The Board works together for the benefit of the swimmers, so no description is complete and jobs get blurred as we all help get it done. If I have missed anything, please let me know.

What a fantastic season - 4-0-1!!

We are still practicing, though the schedule has changed a little (see complete schedule below).

On August 3, we will have another Spirit Night at Chic-Fil-A! I'll get the coupons out as soon as possible.

Don't forget to let Coach Jay know by Friday (sooner if possible) if you will not be swimming in Finals. If you don't tell her you won't be there, she will put your child in at least one event. Finals are Saturday, August 7th. Swimmers 10 and under will be in the morning and 11 and older will be in the afternoon. Finals will be held at the King George YMCA which is on the West bound side of Rt. 3 just past Rt 205. This is an indoor pool and we will have a team area in the Gym. Parking will be tight, but last year they had "parking attendants" to help direct you.

Meet Monday is at Lake of the Woods. This is at Sweetbriar Park within Lake of the Woods (not the main "Country Club" pool that you pass first). Lake of the Woods is a gated Community, just tell them you are going to the swim meet. Swimmers should be there by 4:45pm. For those new to the area, as you head West on Rt 3, you will feel like you are going forever (it's a lot of Battlefields, pastures, trees). You cross Rt 20 (7-11 and Sheetz), you are getting close. If you are not going to be at this meet, let Coach Jay know as soon as possible! (link below)

Tuesday practice will go on the typical Thursday delayed time - older kids start at 8:00am.

Early morning Adult Swim has ended. Thanks, Jay, for providing us this opportunity!

There will be no Clinics next week, due to we are planning for Finals. If you are not able to make Finals, PLEASE let Coach Jay know ASAP by the form or e-mail. I cannot make any changes after July 30; every swimmer that attends finals will be placed into an event.

After all our activities last week, this will seem like a slow week.

Ice cream after Tuesday evening clinic.

Our last home meet is this Wednesday, July 21st. Remember swimmers need to arrive at the pool by 4:30. Parents helping with set up are needed at 4:00. As you arrive, please help with set up even if you are not signed up. And remember at the end of the meet - extra hands to carry things to the shed and clean up, mean everyone goes home quicker! Thanks in advance.

As usual, Thursday will be delayed practice with the older kids starting at 8:00.

Our final dual meet is Monday, July 26th at Lake of the Woods. I mention this now because it will come around quickly. For new families, this meet is held on Monday to give the Coaches time to plan the Finals events. They need to have this complete by Saturday July 31st, so lane assignments can be done and the Heat Sheets printed.

Finals are Saturday, August 7th at the King George YMCA (this is a mapquest link), but the address for your GPS is 10545 Kings Highway (also known as Rt 3), King George, 22485. You go a little further down Rt. 3 past where you turned for Eden Estates. You actually pass the Y and make a U-Turn to get to it.

For the meet this evening against Eden Estates - we MUST show up for the meet (regardless of the weather), unless we get word that the meet is cancelled prior to 4:00pm (you should be leaving about then). The deck area is minimal at Eden Estates, so minimize what you bring as much as possible.

As we get closer to the end of the season, please remember, the SWIM TEAM is not just a team of swimmers, but a TEAM of FAMILIES that work together to give our children an opportunity to improve their swimming and compete in swim meets. As a SWIM TEAM FAMILY, it takes all of us to achieve a positive and rewarding season. Many have shown that TEAM spirit by filling in as needed at the meets. If you have not yet worked or signed up for enough jobs, Carey Pohanka will be contacting you, or you can contact her, capohanka@verizon.net. As I said at the beginning of the season, this is about OUR kids. As parents, the best way to show our kids we support them is to be part of the TEAM.

First - NO ADULT early morning swim on Tuesday!!

Second - $1 per signature to sign the team ad for the Finals Heat sheet this is available at practice tomorrow and Wednesday ONLY!

Third - NO EVENING CLINIC TUESDAY!! This is so everyone can attend the Spirit Night at Chic-Fil-A.

Fourth - Sign up sheet for Car Wash is at practice. We also, need buckets, sponges, towels, hose, car wash.

Greetings everyone,

This is a busy week for the team.

1. Spirit Night at Chic-Fil-A - Tuesday from 4:00p - 8:00p, be sure to bring a "coupon" so the team will get 20%. There are 10 "coupons" on the page, so your family should use one and share with nine other families

2. Swim meet Wednesday at Eden Estates - This is in King George a mapquest link is on the website. Swimmers should arrive by 5:00pm and look for the student coaches to check in. Parents check in with Carey, if you aren't signed up to work, but are available let Carey know. (Remember Thursday practice is later)

3. Car Wash @ Foster's Grill - The car wash runs from 10:00a - 3:00p; we need lots of help and don't expect you to stay all day (unless you want too!). A sign up sheet is available at practice. We need you to spread the word, so we have cars to wash. In conjunction with the car wash, if you eat at Foster's the team earns a percentage. You need to present the attached flyer so they know you're supporting the LH Lightning. Again, share this flyer with friends and family.

Last Call for Swim Suits!

Please email me at ostlunds@verizon.net if you are still in need of a team swim suit or call me @ 540.645.3341. They will be sent back to the vendor in the next week.

I will be at both evening clinics this week on Monday and Tuesday, but will not be at morning practices.

You can also get t-shirts, swim caps, towels, bags and other spirit items at the evening clinics.

Only one parent has attended the last few 6:30am parent swims with Coach Jay and that person won't be there tomorrow. Coach Jay would like to know if anyone will be attending. If you plan to attend send her an email, if she doesn't receive an email, she won't arrive at the pool until 7:30am.

What a meet the other night! We tied the Country Club, it came down to the relays. I believe the magic number was 252.

On Tuesday evening July 13th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm we will be having a Spirit Night at Chic-Fil-A in Southpoint. Attached are coupons to share with friends and family (and use yourself)! You must present one of these coupons when you order for the team to get 20%.

A flyer for the car wash on July 17th is also attached, if you can post this somewhere or share it with friends and family. All the money made at the carwash goes to the team. A sign up sheet will be at practices beginning Monday (you don't have to stay the whole time). I'll be sending out flyers for Foster's Grill next week, when you eat there on the 17th, the team will earn a percentage.

Money earned at these events helps to keep registration fees down, while enabling us to purchase new equipment. Thank you for supporting the team off the pool deck.
