Message from the Meet Director:

I really want to thank everyone for the great response so far to fill all the required positions for the meets! There are still some positions that need to be filled for each meet.

Lee's Hill Lightning had 6 people trained at Wednesday’s RSL training session! Thanks so much Megan H., Chad H., David W., Brock M, and Glenn M! Shari and I were happy to see you all there!!!

Others have also been trained at previous sessions – including Deborah F, and Michael K.

If I have missed anyone- please let me know so I can relax.

Kudos to you all!

We need more trained volunteers in all positions! Especially for the Referee and Head Clerk of Course position.

Reminder:

·         This Saturday on June 8 from 9-11 am at Hampton Oaks is the next RSL Training session!

The jobs that require RSL training are: Head Clerk of Course, Referee, Head Scorer, Stroke and Turn, Head Timer, and Starter.

There are many other jobs to run a meet, but these particular jobs require training. If we don't have trained volunteers we can't run the meets, so please get trained so your kids can swim!

All the job descriptions can be found online at the RSL website.

If you cannot attend on Saturday, there will be 1 more training sessions sponsored by the RSL. It will be on Saturday, June 15 at Lake Wilderness from 9-11 am. Unfortunately this session is at the same time as our mock meet!

Thanks Again – Looking forward to a great season!

Greetings from the Lee's Hill Swim Team!!  Happy Spring!!

Summer is approaching rapidly.   We had a great Ice Cream Social and the excitement for the 2013 summer swim season is growing quickly.   Even though the social has come and gone, there is still opportunity to register and be on the team!  We would love to have you join us.  You can find the registration application online at our website: golightning.org.    Don't forget to friend us on our Facebook page: Lee's Hill Lightning Swim Team, as well, to stay informed with the teams' practices, meets, fundraisers, etc.  We are making an extra effort this year to keep all our available electronic information up to date and accurate.  So please use these mediums as your go-to, as much as possible.  Team registration continues through June 14, 2013. Don't delay!  Join the fun!

Practices will begin on May 28 in the evening. Morning practices will begin when school is out for the summer.   Head swim coach Jay,  the Assistant coach and the student coaches anticipate a fun and successful season!  Last year we had 107 swimmers; will you be on the team this summer?

There are many volunteer positions required to run our meets.  Some require formal training through the RSL. These positions include: referee, starter, head timer, stroke and turn, clerk of course, and head scorer. Be on the front line with our swimmers!  See all the action up close and personal.  As this is being written, the RSL has not announced all the training dates, so watch our website and Facebook page for more training dates!  At this point, we have these known training sessions:

June 1 from 9-11 AM at Fox Point

June 5 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at LeeLand Station

June 8 from 9-11 AM at Hampton Oaks

Saturday 15 Jun 2013, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Lake Wilderness

We challenge each swimming family to be trained in at least one position! If interested, the Lee's Hill Swim Team can reimburse you for training.  Volunteers are imperative to the team - for trained and untrained positions.  Over the course of the season we will rely on over 2500 hours of volunteer time to support our team and kids!  Remember, when your kids are registered swimmers, you are committed to volunteering 6 half meets or 3 full meets.

There is always the opportunity for team sponsorship, too!!  If you own, or know a local business interested in team sponsorship, look on our website for the sponsor form. There are a variety of sponsor levels - even a patron level for families!!!  The team relies on sponsorship to cover costs of equipment (lane lines, PA systems and ribbons), coach stipends and training reimbursements to name a few of the team expenses.

We hope your family will be joining the swim team this summer.   It's a great way to stay fit in a team environment, make new friends and stay in touch with old friends during the summer.   If you have an interest in the team, but still have questions, look for us on the web and get to know us better, or contact me!

Lee's Hill Flash

Lee’s Hill Lightning Swim Team

In just a few weeks, we will kick off the swim season with our Annual Ice Cream Social. This is when we begin to take registrations, parents sign up for jobs, get more information, meet the coaches, the board and, of course, we eat ice cream!

In the spirit of making the Lightning swim team more fun and enjoyable, please come early and come prepared to the Ice Cream Social.    For the first time ever we are offering exciting entertainment!  We will have a fun for all with a Magician, a Yo-Yo demonstration and a Scavenger Hunt!!

If that is not enough, all registering swimmers will receive a FREE Lee Hill Swim Cap.  We are also planning to have the swim suit sales representative available at that time.  So join us on Sunday, April 28th from 3:00 – 5:00pm at the South Lee’s Hill Community Clubhouse.  Please note the time, as it is different from last month’s Crier article.  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone.

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013, is the first evening of practice. Mark your calendar and check the website for up to date information. The website, www.golightning.org will also have a complete list of the meets and practice schedules, as they become available.

Three official Rappahannock Swim League training clinics have been scheduled at this time with several more to come.  We have a number of critical volunteer positions that require mandatory training.  The clinic dates are:
May 22 from 7-9 PM at the Spotsylvania YMCA
June 1 from 9-11 AM at Fox Point
June 8 from 9-11 AM at Hampton Oaks
Having trained parents is the core of having a successful summer swim organization.  We need trained people in every area.  Please consider participating in a clinic and becoming a vital part of the swim team meets.  Much of the training coincides with the VHSL (High School) rules.  Training now will serve the swim parent for many years to come.  Remember that training fees are reimbursable from the team, just ask.

This year, we are in the American Division of the RSL.  In all, 12 teams shifted either up or down a division.  The RSL has a total of 24 teams with 4 divisions.  We look forward to a very successful season!
There is still time for businesses in the area to become a team sponsor. We have a variety of ways you can be a sponsor and any amount is helpful. Please contact me if you are interested or know someone who might want to be a loyal sponsor.
The team has several methods of sharing information. We have a website, Facebook group, emails and a blog.  If you will be new to the team this year and would like to start getting emails, contact me.
Save the dates now for the 28th of April for the Ice Cream Social and May 28th for the 1st evening swim practice! Stay up to date with swim team happenings online with our Facebook group - “Lee’s Hill Lightning Swim Team” and our website – www.golightning.org.
